I’m in no position to tell anyone how to feel in the aftermath of the The Trade, but I would like to say a few things that you can all ignore if you want.
Don’t think of the move as a gamble but as a calculated risk. The front office wasn’t out to punish the supporters by trading away beloved players; they were making a move which they thought could have an immediate impact on the team as a whole. The front office did their due diligence and think that Eddie Johnson will make a strong strike partner for Fredy Montero. Only time will tell whether the correct decision was made or not, but it isn’t truly fair to criticize the organization for a tactical move when the impact hasn’t even been fully realized.
Don’t get me wrong, you have every right to be hurt or pissed off. But asking for Adrian’s head is a bit dramatic, don’t you think? The team and organization’s goals extend beyond just contending for another US Open Cup. The Sounders want to prove they are world class by having success across all competitions and the tough decisions have to be made in order for those goals to be achieved. The front office hasn’t made all the right moves, but let’s not discredit them just yet for this one.
And to expand on what @wazzu said, bad mouthing Eddie Johnson is very un-Sounder like. We have the reputation of being one of the best supporter groups for a reason, and we should welcome him in the same fashion that we would any other player in any other circumstance. I think it would be safe to assume that he unwillingly caused Sounders nation heart pains by joining the club. Don’t chastise him for a move he was indirectly involved with.
Mike Fucito and Lamar Neagle aren’t dropping off the face of the earth. In fact, we should wish them great success in Montreal, where it seems it is more than likely they will get more consistent playing time than they would here in Seattle. I would encourage us all to having rooting interests in Montreal (except for when they play against us, of course) since the makeup of their roster is tinted with Rave Green ;-)
And finally, here’s a quote applicable to Adrian Hanauer when considering the position he is in, “Indecision is like a stepchild: if he does not wash his hands, he is called dirty, if he does, he is wasting water.” Think about it.
