From Simmons’ Grantland but written by staffer Chris Ryan. The actual title of the article is a bit misleading, but I’m sure there will be arguments against that claim. The piece is fine; it’s the same schmaltz you get when national journos come in and observe this rivalry from an outside perspective (although, it seems he’s a bit partial to PDX).
Personally, I would have liked it if Ryan was a bit more immersed in this rivalry. For starters, being present for both games of this derby and then walking a mile in both PDX/Seattle supporters shoes. Even being in each city leading up to the big derby game. Then, he truly could offer an experience worthy of how great this rivalry really is for MLS. Just sayin’.
